It will be an impressive lineup of girls volleyball talent Friday and Saturday when Ransom-Everglades and Westminster Christian host the 11th Annual Smoothie King Invitational.

Both schools have served as host venues for the event in the past , but because of scheduling conflicts at Ransom, all the matches this year will be held at Westminster Christian, 6855 SW 152 Street, in the main gym and the Student Activities Center.

“We’re once again very excited to co-host this terrific event with Ransom,” said Westminster volleyball coach Julie Doan-Kurenuma. “Not only do we have some of the best teams from the Tri-County area but Central Florida and the west coast as well.”

With a total of 16 teams participating (four teams each in Pools A, B, C and D), action will get under way Friday afternoon with a few of the featured attractions being Westminster taking on Cardinal Gibbons in Pool B at 2:30 p.m. and Riviera Prep. squaring off against Ransom at 8:45 p.m.

Following Friday’s pool play, semifinals will take place Saturday morning following by championship matches in the early afternoon. All sets will be best of three and tickets will be $5 at the door each day.

As far as her Warriors team is concerced, they moved their record to 16-4 on Tuesday night with a thrilling five-set marathon victory over Ferguson. Saskia Hernandez led the way for WC with 31 kills, 17 digs and 4 aces as Westminster prevailed 28-30, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10. Amanda Maier (11 kills, 1 block), Sydney Bond (52 assists, 11 digs, 5 kills) and Amanda Tesserot (17 digs, 2 aces) also came through with big efforts.
