Memorial Day is Monday, May 29. For many, that means barbecues, road trips, time for rest and remembrance.
It also means a change in hours at stores and for government services.
Here’s what to know in South Florida:
Supermarkets
Hours may vary so check with your location.
▪ Publix will be open though hours may vary.
▪ Winn-Dixie and Fresco y Más will be open though hours may vary.
▪ Sedano’s will be open regular hours.
▪ The Fresh Market will be open regular hours.
▪ Whole Foods Market will be open though hours may vary.
▪ Aldi will be open with limited hours.
▪ Trader Joe’s will be open though hours may vary.
Pharmacies
▪ Walgreens stores and pharmacies will be open although some non-24-hour pharmacies will have reduced hours.
▪ CVS stores and pharmacies will be open although some pharmacies may have reduced hours or be closed for the holiday.
▪ Navarro will be open.
Recreation and Shopping
▪ Beaches will be open in Miami-Dade and Broward.
▪ Parks will be open.
▪ Malls: Aventura Mall, Dolphin Mall and the Simon-owned malls (Dadeland Mall, The Falls, Florida Keys Outlet Marketplace, International Mall, Sawgrass Mills, Coral Square, Town Center at Boca Raton) will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
▪ Restaurants should be open on Memorial Day. Some places, however, may have reduced hours.
Transit
▪ Miami-Dade’s Metrorail and Metromover will run on their weekend schedules. Metrobus will run on its Sunday schedule on Memorial Day Monday.
▪ Broward Transit will operate on a holiday service schedule. Express and Breeze bus service eon’t be in service. People who need planning for fixed-route and paratransit services should call 954-357-8400. Only a few terminals will be staffed from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
▪ Tri-Rail trains will run on a weekend schedule, which means they won’t “have the flexibility to wait on late comers. Passengers should arrive to the station 20 minutes before their departure. Here’s where you can find train arrival times on the schedule.
Government
Schools, courts, post offices, libraries and city halls will be closed for the federal holiday. That means no mail, classes or jury duty.
